How Beautiful are Your Feet?

Most believers are quite familiar with Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” I would dare say many have already committed this verse to memory. What a wonderful invitation to a lost and dying world to simply come in humble dependence to the God who stands ready to save. A blessed promise indeed!

But right on the heels of this well-known verse we read the following: “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:14-15) This progression of questions leads us to a logical attitude of responsibility; a salvation so great as this surely must be proclaimed to all mankind. And what can be said of those who go forth and herald the good news? How beautiful are their feet!

Why beautiful feet? What do feet have to do with the proclamation of the Gospel? Why not ascribe the beauty to the words or the lips? I’ll tell you why, it’s the feet that take the words to the people who need to hear. It’s the feet that transport the lips within earshot of those who need the truth. Powerful words and learned lips have little impact when they are shackled by lame, lazy or lackadaisical feet. How many believers have taken evangelism classes, memorized Bible verses, attended seminars, mastered half a dozen Gospel presentations and still cannot seem to get out of their seat and onto their feet? Our problem is not that we need to know more, we simply need to GO more!

How can we increase the “GO-tential” of the Gospel? Let me offer four simple suggestions:

(1) Purpose to go – set aside a regular time each week to go, and get someone to go with you.

(2) Encourage one another other to go – this does wonders for both parties; two are better than one.

(3) Be soul-conscious whenever you go – ask God to open your eyes to the opportunities; Jesus said, the fields are white already unto harvest.

(4) Be prepared wherever you go – have tracts on hand, prepare a few conversation starters and just be willing to tell what you know.
